Angkuna Baker Bessy | Artist Profile

Details of Angkuna Baker Bessy

"I grew up in the bush near Areyonga, and when I was young my aunties taught me lots of inma (cultural songs and dances.) I worked at many cattle stations with Alec Baker my husband, and then we came to live at Iwantja. There was no school then, so we all built a big humpy and inside I was teaching tji tji’s (children) this was the first school at Indulkana. My paintings are about my country, there are big stories inside my canvases."
