SPOTLIGHT ON ANANGU IN ADELAIDE: ARTWORKS FROM THE BUNGALOW
Current viewing_room
Today's Spotlight showcases the incredible ceramics and paintings of Anangu artists living and visiting in Adelaide, South Australia and working at Iwiri Studio. Anangu people traditionally come from the remote Western Desert bloc region. The Adelaide community studio, is dedicated to showcasing the work of talented artists who draw inspiration from their lands to create contemporary pieces reflecting the rich tapestry of remote Australian art and culture.
The studio offers a sanctuary and place of cultural and art practice for Anangu artists visiting or living in Adelaide. It also serves as a platform for artists to express their unique perspectives, stories, and traditions through various mediums including ceramics and paintings. These creations not only preserve cultural information passed down through generations but also challenge conventional notions of art by offering fresh interpretations of the land, its spirits, and its people. Through their innovative approach to traditional practices, the Anangu artists exemplify the power of art and culture to continuously evolve within age-old mediums such as ceramics alongside customs and beliefs.
