SPOTLIGHT ON CHROMATIC DEPTH & SPACE: ARTWORKS FROM THE BUNGALOW
Current viewing_room
4 MARCH 2025
Today’s Spotlight brings you a selection of incredible artworks that create depth and movement using negative space or a predominately pared back dark palette to influence composition and create striking powerful images. The use of ‘empty’ space in artwork has a long tradition in modern art. It can be cleverly used to highlight the focal point of an image, effect harmony, contrast, depth and to create artistic tension. Controlled use of a pared back dark palette and a tempered hand can make objects float, landscapes vast and draw us into a sense of unity or impermanence. The use of space and colour guides the eye and when used well can direct a viewer’s emotional response to an artwork.
Today’s selection brings you highly balanced, pared back artworks that float amongst the drama and tension of the space around them. They use a consider palette, stillness and shape to create perspective, alter the luminesce of colour or influence mood and perception. We invite you to view our curated selection of artworks from our stockroom. A price list can be obtained via, enquiries@shortstgallery.com.
