Tjarlirli Arts Veiwing Room

Tjukurla community is in the Ngannyatjarra Lands of Western Australia. The art centre was established in Tjukurla in 2006 and named Tjarlirli Art. With close family ties in the neighbouring community of Kaltukajara (in the Pitjantjatjara lands in the Northern Territory), the art centre extended to support the artists here, naming their second art centre, Kaltukatjara Art. The centre acts as the primary business venture in Tjukurla, providing an important source of income and employment in the community of around 40 permanent residents. Many of the artists have strong links to the Papunya art movement with many families from Tjukurla leaving Kintore and Kiwirrkurra to return to their traditional lands in the 1980’s

The studios main focus is on preserving and promoting the artwork and culture of the Ngaanyatjarra people by supporting their art practice and providing opportunities for training, development and industry participation. The cultural significance of the work from this region has been recognised by leading institutions and discerning buyers, with artworks from the two communities finding their way into major exhibitions and collections within Australia and abroad. We hope you enjoy the Tjukurla Community Spotlight. Here you will discover artwork by senior artists such as Nyarapayi Giles and Esther Giles together with a new guard of artists carrying their family’s traditions such as Adam Butler, Shelia Giles and Deborah Young. We are offering free domestic shipping on purchases from Tjukurla until May 7th 2021.
