The lines that run in both directions through the work are known as orriseege or 'pathways' and provide a compositional framework for the design. Inside the black bands of orriseege is the diamond design siha'e, the fruit of the tree. The main designs are a combination of both siha'e, the fruit of the tree and visuano'e, the teeth of the mountain fish.
