Ngalpingka Simms was born at a place in Western Australia known to Anangu (Aboriginal people) as Wayiyul. Wayiyul is a Minyma Tjuta (Seven Sister's) site situated between Warburton and Patjarr Communities in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Ngalpingka is renowned for her complex and vibrant use of colour to depict the ancestral journeys of Minyma Tjuta (drawn here as u shapes). Their actions and daily activities created the land formations of the country. Wa Nyiiru (the lustful man) is also present here as he pursues the sisters across the landscape in search of a wife. Ngalpingka spent her early days living a traditional lifestyle with her small family group and later moved into Warburton Mission where many Ngaanyatjarra people settled. She spent many years at Warburton living a semi nomadic lifestyle and participating in traditional ceremony. She is now living at Tjuntjuntjara and married to Spinifex elder Lennard Walker.
