Town Camp, Bush Camp: New works from Tangentyere & Yarrenyty Arltere Artists
Past exhibition
Short St Gallery is thrilled to present our inaugural exhibition for 2024, Town Camps, Bush Camps. Alice Springs Town Camps are home to two incredible community run art centres, which have become renowned for their vibrant and captivating artworks and soft sculptures. These centres provide a space for local Indigenous artists to express their cultural heritage, stories, and perspectives through various mediums. The artwork produced is not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful, representing a connection to the land, spirituality, and the artists' lived experiences.
The artworks created by these artists often celebrate lived experience or tell historical powerful narratives about the resilience of Aboriginal people in the face of adversity. Through their exceptional skills and creativity, the artists have gained national recognition for their contributions to contemporary art. The artworks not only captivate the eye but serve as a powerful reminder of the rich cultural identity that exists within Alice Springs Town Camps while also highlighting important social issues faced by these communities.
