Kukula is a young Luritja woman from Papunya renowned for her depictions of cockatoos, Uttumpatu and Haast Bluff (culturally significant land formations in the central desert). Kukula’s keen observation and insight into of the bird life and landscape around her is evident in each of her unique paintings. Her artwork plays on the individuality of each bird, and rocky out crop she sees, whether it be a lone Red Tail or a big mob soaring thru the sky.
Kukula’s observation of these rare and endangered animals set amongst the colours of a desert firmament are recognisable and sought after across Australia. Short St Gallery is honoured to present her recent body of work in, Cockatoos in Flight.
