PINK IS PUNK: Pink Bits From Across the Land
Past exhibition
OPENING MAY 12 @ 6PM, ALL WELCOME
In modern history pink has been a divisive colour, simultaneously evoking feeling of repulsion and attraction. Symbolising the feminine and docile while also being underground and risqué. In recent years attitudes to pink have changed as we realise colour, much like life, is what you make of it. Pink is being reclaimed and increasingly it is seen as challenging preconceived ideas and as a symbol of strength, giving people the space they need to admit - they love pink. And why not? It is fun and fantastic. It can calm you or slam you in the face with electro-pop culture vibes. It is punk!
In remote contemporary Australian art practice, pink is gutsy and badass. It holds onto none of Western cultures ideas of pink as weak and submissive, but is instead a celebration and a rebellion. Short St Gallery is proud to bring artworks from across the country together in a curated selection of pink bits that draw on all that is stands for; pretty, powerful and punk.
