Short St Gallery proudly presents, Yiniangawula Jilamarra - Our Stories From Our Paintings, featuring significant artworks from Susan Wanji Wanji, Virginia Galarla, Christine Puruntatameri, Alison Puruntatameri and Francesca Puruntatameri. All five artists live and work On Melville Island and a part of the Tiwi Islands, a group of islands in Australia's Northern Territory. Their artwork has an ethereal beauty and power that is honed by the delicate and repetitive marks made during their creation. These marks were traditionally painted on the body of Tiwi people during ceremony and forms the corner stone of Tiwi art today.
Each piece in this exhibition is a collection of individual marks that come together with thousands of others, creating a sense of movement and intent that is exceptional and affecting. Yiniangawula Jilamarra, showcases major works from five highly accomplished artists whose work is represented in major collection and awards across Australia and internationally.
