OPENING NIGHT FRIDAY MARCH 3 @ 6PM, ALL WELCOME. 

Following on the back of several highly successful exhibitions and collaborations with Gorman clothing, Becky is exhibiting and travelling to Australia for the first time in over 5 years. Desire Lines explores Becky’s experiences and realisation of her time during the worldwide lock down. Through Desire Lines, Becky attempts to map the paths and tracks made over time by the wishes and feet of walkers, especially those that run contrary to design and planning.

‘This work is about people and connection, as well as simplicity and gratitude for everyday happenings. How we know ourselves through the people around us. The preciousness of loved ones, the thrill of chance encounters, people you see daily but don’t know their names. Our habitual goat paths - or desire lines - become the grooves by which we navigate our daily lives’, Becky Blair.

This body of work was created over a year in her studio in Great Britain while contemplating a new reality and her own desire line to Australia. This desire has been forged over a 30-year period of travelling to Australian shores creating art, friends, connection, and memories, and returning to and exhibiting time and again. The exhibition continues Becky’s examination of what it is to travel during restrictions, and how one journeys to uncover inspiration without far flung adventures. The resulting works are about people and connection, as well as simplicity and gratitude for everyday happenings.

Short St Gallery invites you to view this powerful look at the lines of longing that run through us, whether for the romance of travel or the precious encounters of everyday life.

For those of you lucky enough to be based in Perth, Short St's Annexe will be showing Desire Lines at Stackwood Studios from March 3rd -10th. Opening hours as follows, all welcome.
