Old Village, Titjikala. I been growing up there and staying with the grandmas in the humpies. Parents were
working on the Station [Maryvale]. Some swags and windbreak there. Sitting down and eating, getting water,
some got old style wheelbarrow carrying rubbish away. Lot of papa [dogs). Also, boys playing with home-
made toy car, pushing him with long handle. Two men got a horse and carrying rations to big families sitting
there by the fire, making tea, and waiting for those rations. Damper, my [pet) sheep there eating damper. I
remember first time he eating damper I decided I'll call him Damper. Donkey, his friend eating with Damper.
Water tank from canteen for drink for Damper, Donkey, horses, papa [dogs] there between the shed and the
fire. Papa (dogs) everywhere being happy. One begging for food. Kids there. Sit around campfires and talk. It
was a cold day. People sitting down inside the humpy and windbreak protecting swags. Shed used as
windbreak to protect hearth, fireplace. Crows always around waiting for food scraps. Wildflowers all the
wildflowers pinky-blue, then yellow flowers on that sandhill. Those were happy days in the old village.
