In Town, Out Bush presents beautiful new works of paintings and soft sculptures from the Town Camp Artists. Each work is rich in personality and defiance; shaped by the experiences and community that the artists hold so strongly and proudly as their own. Town Camps is the name used to describe 18 of the Alice Springs Aboriginal Housing Associations found in Mparntwe. Through their art, the Town Camp Artists communicate stories about their families, identity, and lives, that aim to highlight the everyday experience of Aboriginal people in Central Australia.
Through sharing stories, the Town Camp Artists place themselves in the national conversation, highlighting their community and working towards understanding. Featuring incredible artists such as Sally M Mulda, Joanne Wheeler and Rhonda Sharpe, Short Street Gallery is proud to present our first exhibition for 2023, In Town, Out Bush.
