This is about what happened to my ancestors along the Canning Stock Route. Jumu Soak is temporary source of underground water. A Jumu soak fills up with water in the wet season and gradually dries out so that only a person with expert local knowledge could judge whether an apparently dry Jumu is likely to yield water after being dug out.
