Maureen Donnegan has depicted with clarity and meaning, a life of hunting and gathering. She places family in various camps around a central rockhole and has a husband and wife approaching from opposites sides. She shows the days collection of nutrient dense bush foods and meat. She then interlaces this story within the contours of the surrounding landscape that gives the composition the movement required. This was the daily scene for people living in the Great Victoria Desert until recently (1960) when most Spinifex residents were dispossessed Of their land because Of the British Atomic Testing at nearby Maralinga. Of course people still hunt and gather today but the sedentary lifestyle has taken hold and these scenes are looked upon from memory.
