Ruth Bates Australian, Ngaanyatjarra, b. 1961

Ruth Bates isan artist belonging to the Ngaanyatjarra language and cultural group and lives inWarakurna, WA.Ruth was born in the bush in between Patjarr and Wanarn in Western Australia. She grew upnear Wiluna then moved to Warburton where she attended school. Ruth then went to highschool inPerth before returning to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Ruth now lives in WarakurnaCommunity in WA with her family and makes lovely large baskets and wonderful character-filledsculptures. Ruth enjoys making Tjanpi because it is a nicething to do for relaxing.
