Shelia Giles Australian, Ngaanyatjarra, b. 1961

Sheila’s family traditionally hunted around the Papunya area. Her father was Tommy Lowry Tjapaltjarri, one of the founding members of Papunya Tula Artists. She lived in Docker River before moving to Tjukurla in the 1980’s with her family, when it became an outstation of Docker River. Sheila is a skilled painter, basket weaver and purnu (wooden artifact) carver. She is a strong Ngaanyatjarra woman, with extensive knowledge of her country and the many Tjukurrpa stories from these lands
