Matilda Oxtoby Australian, Wunambal, b. 1962

Matilda was found in Dreaming by her first Mum, who fished for her, ate her and said 'it tastes funny, this is a baby, but I am too old'. "She gave me to my Mum who became pregnant with me".

Matilda is an established artist who has recently started painting at Kira Kiro Art Centre. Inspired by her sister Sylvia Djanghara, and well known artist and uncle Waigan Djanghara, Matilda considers local rock art themes and those of local flora and fauna that inhabit the river and pristine coastline of the Kalumburu surrounds in the north-west Kimberley.
