Lance Peck Australian, Manjilyjarra, b. 1975
Lance Peck was born at Carnarvon(Yamatji),WA in1975.He spent his early years in Manyjilyarra country,1,500 kilometres north of Perth. As a young boy he lived on sheep andcattle stations where his mother workedas the domestic staff.He attended school at Coolgardie,WA, and subsequently worked as a stockhand, tracker and then in the mining industry at Wiluna,WA. Lance was taught to paint at Tjungu Palya in Nyapari Community in the APY Lands to the east and has since worked with various art centres in the Western Desertincluding Irrunytju Arts in Wingellina. Lance has worked as an artsworker with Papulankutja Artists. His work is distinguished by an intricate and sophisticated dong technique, consisting of crystalline patterned areas that metaphorically evoke the landscapes of his ancestral Tjukurrpa.His narratives relate to Kata Kata rockhole, WatiKutjarra Tjukurrpa (two snake man Dreaming), Kunatjarra waterhole (Lake Maitland)and Tjitji WatiKutjarra Tjukurrpa (ancestral creation story).
