In this work I reflect on the richness of traditional desert culture and my homeland in the country around Papunya, the community where I witnessed the indigenous painting movement’s first beginnings: here I paint the landscape and the sacred traditions it contains and shelters - secrets that can be hinted at but never disclosed to outsiders. This energy of secrecy lies in every square of the work: the cells are like portals, doors which hint at what lies beneath the surface of the earth and beyond the reach of the onlooking eye
