This is the old bridge near Willaire, it's the only way the stations could get their cattle to Broome. It was a dangerous bridge, doesn't look like this now. It had tides that would cover it, salt water, the cattlemen had to wait for the tides to go down, they had to watch, one side had crocodiles, you couldn't go over that side. When it was low they would cross, still water coming over.
All the stations had to use this bridge. This was before cattle trucks, Go Go, Fossil, Christmas Creek, Louisa Downs, everyone had to make the crossing.
One time a bullock was drinking and a crocodile grabbed him from the side of the bridge, he took that bullock down the river, they found the croc and only the bullock head was there.
This is a true story of how it used to be, my brother used to tell this story all the time about my dad. That was hard work back then.
