Kay Finn Australian, Pitjanjatjara, b. 1954

Kay Finn is a senior Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara woman based in both Umoona and Oodnadatta. She became a member of Umoona Art Centre in October 2021 before the construction of the current studio. Finn paints variations on recurring themes of water holes and the culture surrounding this precious resource. Her painting style is well known for her box borders, these geometric forms enmeshed with the circular symbols of the waterholes and dynamic doƫting. As well as her solo practice she also collaborates with sister-in-law Jeannie Minunga and niece Myra Kumantjara. In 2022, Kay and Jeannie's collaboration was shortlisted in the prestigious Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
