Joy Jackson Australian, Pitjantjatjara, b. 1962

Joy Jackson was born in 1962 in Kalgoorlie. Her parents Bert and Molly Jackson were living at Cundelee Mission at the time and Joy was raised and did her early school years there. She went to high school in Kalgoorlie whilst staying at Ninti Hostel and then moved to Coonana Community in the 80's after Cundellee Mission was closed down and followed the exodus of Spinifex People to Tjuntjuntjara.

She has lived in Tjuntjuntjara Community ever since. Joy came to painting late in her life, as she wasn't confidant in her abilities after an operation to remove an abscess in her spine left her wheelchair bound. But she has gone from strength to strength in her depictions of country that is important to her.
