Like the fire and water dreaming narratives, this painting should be seen in the frame of the main Tjukurrpa stories for which Alison is the owner. Stretching from the sites of Mikanji and Kalipinypa in the desert country far to the north-west of Alice Springs all the way to the South Australian border and beyond. “When you get up to high responsibility in culture and in contemplating the landscape and the patterns of the world, not all forms are round or rounded, the squares reveal a further, hidden order to things. When the wind blows the spinifex, for example, it doesn’t only blow it into circular shapes but also sometimes straight lines. They show something fundamental about the circumstances of our presence in the world.”
